When it concerns skin problems, getting a permanent solution rather than relying on quick fixes is always a better idea. So, first figure out what’s causing the blemishes on your skin, and then eliminate the problem itself. These blemishes can be due to anything from a lack of personal hygiene, malnutrition, or lack of sleep and exercises.

Dry skin also makes the skin look patchy, flaky and dull. The dryness of your skin may be a result of inadequate production of natural oils (sebum) or because of overexposure to harsh weather. You need to understand that when the sebaceous glands in our body are dysfunctional, it leads to an inadequate production of sebum, which lubricates our skin and gives it a smooth texture. The underproduction of sebum is usually caused by a lack of intake of essential fats. Insufficient intake of water also contributes to the problem of dry skin. So, drink lots of water and fresh fruit juices every day to hydrate your skin and keep it healthy and glowing.

Diet plays a very important role in keeping the skin blemish free and also providing it moisture. Including nuts and seeds in your diet will be very beneficial, as they provide the necessary fatty acids without harming the system. Also, eat lots of green leafy vegetables and raw fruits to ensure that all the essential nutrients are supplied to your system.  Dairy products are also a good bet for moisturizing the skin. Foods like yogurt, milk, butter, and cheese would be beneficial for the skin too. But then, make sure that you do not go overboard with their consumption. It won’t be such a good thing for your health!

Other than the diet, it’s very important that you moisturize your skin daily. Milk is a very good natural skin cleanser and moisturizer. You can just wash your face once a day with milk or apply it with a cotton swab, let it stay for 20 minutes and wash it off with water. Another moisturizer you can make is ¾ cup of rose water, one teaspoon vinegar, and ¼ teaspoon honey and glycerin. Apply this mixture regularly after cleansing your face. In a short period of time you will find your skin not only free of blemishes, but also well moisturized. To get rid of blemishes, apply the juice of tomato, orange, lemon or potato. Keep it on for about 20 minutes and then wash your face with cold water.

The skin is made up of three layers: the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Skin problems are mainly associated with two key glands located in the dermis. The sweat gland helps eliminate water soluble cellular waste while the oil gland lubricates the skin surface or epidermis. If the oil glands are under productive or dysfunctional the skin can become dry, irritable and flaky. If both the glands do not function properly they can cause numerous skin problems. Skin blemishes could be a result of inadequate personal hygiene, nutritional deficiencies, emotional disturbances, lack of sleep or lack of physical exercise. The underactive oil gland produces inadequate oil secretions that lead to insufficient lubrication of the skin’s surface. Dry skin is either deprived of adequate oil or moisture. Soaps, cleansing agents, cosmetics and overexposure to harsh weather can also result in dry skin.

Diet is an important attribute that helps develop and nurture healthy and glowing skin. Avoiding intake of chocolates, sweets, greasy and starchy foods will help you make your skin healthy. Increase your water intake and supplement your fluid intake with juices and milkshakes that help you flush the toxins and keep skin clear of blemishes. Consider including more raw vegetables, fruits and salads that ensure your nutritive requirements are met. Dairy products like milk, butter, yogurt, and cottage cheese can help you gain lovely skin but keep an eye on the calorie intake. Including a bowl of yoghurt during lunch and dinner will help keep skin clear while you don’t add calories. Apart from a diet control measure ensure you get eight to ten hours of sleep, exercise moderately and indulge in any relaxation activity that helps keep stress at bay. These basic tips should help you keep skin problems at a distance.

Care for your skin by indulging in moisturizing and nourishing routines. Cleanse the skin with cold creams followed by alcohol free skin fresheners. Moisturize the skin while it is damp to get the best results. Make your own effective moisturizer by blending together three- fourth cup rose water, quarter teaspoon each of honey and glycerin and a teaspoon of vinegar. Use this mixture regularly after cleansing. Make a face mask with mashed banana and vegetable oil. Apply this paste and rinse after a while. This will help nourish the skin and relieve dryness. Some other aspects that will help keep skin moist and supple are avoiding going out in the sun without protection, using luke- warm and not hot water for bathing and using alcohol free skin products and buying oil or cream based skin care products.

There are many reasons for blemishes on face. It is also important to know which are of face blemishes exist. Skin is the mirror of health, and it is the map of the body, to tell an ayurvedic doctor which organ of the body is in problem. Color of the blemish tells the dosha (Kapha, Pitta, Vata) patient is suffering from. Dryness of the skin is from Vata dosha and blemishes generally due to pitta dosha vitiation. Several face packs are suggested by this author in an article titled "ayurvedic beauty parlour" which you can read by clicking on:

If blemishes are in area where acne is normally seen, it indicates that you have endocrinal gland problems also. Best advice that can be given to you is: Instead of worrying about cosmetic beauty, visit a naturopath or ayurvedist and get your real problems solved. Body automatically corrects the facial appearance, since face is the MRI report of your health.
