Natural Remedy for Ear Infection

How do you get rid of ear infections
(11 Dec 2009)

Ear infections are a common problem but can have serious consequences if neglected. Ear infections are caused by either internal or external factors. The ear and throat are connected by a thin tube called the Eustachian tube.

Therefore if you have a ear infection it is possible for the infection to pass through the Eustachian tube and infect your ear as well. It is also possible that there could be fungus or bacteria within your ear that has cause the infection. This often happens if you have water in your ear. Bacteria and fungus require a warm and moist environment to thrive and so if there is any water in your ear, there is a high probability that you will get a ear infection. The most common symptoms of a ear infection are a dull pain or a deep ear ache and you may even get a slight fever. There are several home remedies for ear infection s that you can use in order to get rid of this problem.

Home remedies for ear infections are directed at cleansing your ear thoroughly and getting rid of the microbe that is causing the infection. To cleanse your ear you can use warm oil. Heat a little olive oil and add a very small pinch of turmeric to it. Allow the oil to stand undisturbed until it cools down and while it is still warm you can pour it into your ear. It is best if you get someone to help you when doing this. Lie on your side and pour the oil into the affected ear. Plug up your ear with a piece of cotton to prevent the oil from cooling down too quickly. Lie on your side for about 20 minutes to half an hour. After that remove the cotton plug and flip over onto your other side. Place a cloth below your ear so that the oil does not stain your pillow. Lie like this for about 10 minutes. Pour a little more olive oil into your ear and plug it up with a piece of cotton. You can then go about your daily chores. After about 2 hours, lie down once more and drain the oil out. Fungus and bacteria generally attach themselves to the earwax in your ear. The oil however dissolves the wax and therefore when you drain the oil out, the wax and the microbes are washed out of your ear. Do this for two to three days to ensure that your ear is completely free of all microbes.
