A bladder infection is the infection caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract. This infection usually affects the kidneys, bladder, urethra, and in women, it also affects the uterus. One suffers from this infection when the bacterium enters the urethras and multiples, causing much distress.
Though bladder infection, or urinary tract infection, can affect anyone at any age, women are more susceptible to the disease. Usually when suffering from this infection, the person has a frequent urge to urinate. But when he or she goes to the toilet, there is very little urine and while passing urine, the person often experiences a burning sensation. Bladder infection must not be taken lightly, since if left untreated, it can affect the kidneys. Women can also suffer from cystitis if the bladder infection is not taken care of in the initial stages itself. Bladder infection is caused by kidney stones or enlarged prostates. A UTI or a bladder infection is also caused by ignoring the urge to urinate for a long time, multiple sexual partners and having intercourse with an already infected person.
Bladder infection can be treated in a lot of ways and the sufferer doesn’t always have to rely on antibiotics for treatment. The most important and basic tip for the sufferer is consuming large quantities of fluids everyday- at least three liters of water, lots of fresh fruit juices, or buttermilk. When the urine is eliminated from the body, the bacteria are flushed out along with it. Your urine will be able to tell you if you are consuming enough liquids or not. If the urine is clear, it indicates ample consumption of water and if it looks slightly colored, take it as a cue to increase the water consumption. Adding ½ a teaspoon baking soda in a glass of water and drinking it when one feels any discomfort is really helpful too.
Cranberry juice is beneficial in preventing the bacteria from clinging to the lining of the urinary tract. The patient can have a glass of cranberry juice everyday to get rid of these bacteria. If the cranberry juice is too strong, it can be mixed with apple juice. Vitamin C creates an acidic environment in the urinary tract, which inhibits the growth or existence of bacteria. Drinking orange juice or lemon juice will be beneficial in preventing this infection. You can get the required vitamins and mineral from a balanced diet too. Eat a bowl of pineapple everyday to let the naturally occurring bromelian enzyme fight the infection.
