Cure for Scabies

what is a cure (with out going to the doctors) for scabies.
(30 Nov 2009)

Sarcoptes scabiei is a tiny eight legged mite that is the main cause of scabies. Apart from being a very irritating and itchy skin condition, scabies is highly contagious too. This is because the mite causing this condition can jump across substantial distances for its size.

This condition is also a little difficult to treat, as the mites causing scabies form burrows in the skin. Due to its highly contagious nature, people experiencing scabies are often treated in isolation.

People experiencing scabies feel the need to scratch their skin continuously, thus worsening their condition. In this condition the female mite creates burrows just beneath the outermost surface of a patient’s skin. It then lays eggs which hatch within a period of 3 weeks. Sarcoptes scabiei can attach itself to anything from a patient’s towel to his clothes or even his bedcovers. Therefore, one must avoid sharing such articles with an infected individual. A persistent urge to itch that increases at night, and the visibility of tiny bumps or blisters are the most common symptoms of this condition. However, scabies is not a very serious condition, and can be treated effectively with the help of modern medication, or simple home remedies. However, it is always advisable to visit a doctor so as to gauge the intensity of your condition. You may use these home remedies in order to relieve the itchy and burning sensation, and to get rid of the mites.
Apply cold compresses on the affected areas whenever you feel the urge to scratch your skin. This will prevent any further infestation.
  • Calamine lotion will also help in soothing the itchy sensation. This remedy however, is ineffective in curing the condition. You may apply this before going to bed at night, as the itching sensation becomes almost unbearable at this time.
  • Tea tree oil is also very effective in treating this condition. Dilute the oil by mixing it with a carrier oil. Tea tree oil is very strong in the concentrate form, and can burn the skin if applied directly. Therefore, you should mix it with olive oil or any other vegetable oil in a ratio of 1:2 parts for effective results. Tea tress oil possesses effective anti bacterial properties that will help in restricting bacterial infections as well, along with eliminating the scabies effectively.
  • The juice extracted from the leaves of an apricot tree can also help in eliminating the itchy sensation caused by this condition. Leave the juice on for some time before rinsing your skin thoroughly.
