Tooth aches are a common condition faced by many people around the world. This is one of the basic reasons as to why people take this condition lightly. Apart from being painful, tooth aches can result in the complete loss of the affected tooth.
Therefore, one must take a toothache seriously. Dental cavities are the primary cause of a tooth ache. In some cases, gum infections may also lead to this condition. Many people try and avoid visiting a dentist when they first notice the formation of a cavity, and wait until it develops into a tooth ache. It is strongly recommended that you visit a dentist as soon as possible in order to ascertain the extent of damage done to your teeth.
Cavities are caused by tooth decay, which in turn occurs due to poor oral and dental hygiene. A decayed tooth may fall off, or in severe cases infect the gum as well. Both these conditions are painful and undesirable. Therefore, it is better to observe good oral hygiene, than face tooth decay and cavities. You may use these home remedies in order to experience temporary relief from your tooth ache, however, only a visit to a dentist will provide you with a permanent solution.
- Brush your teeth after every meal. If this is not possible, brush your teeth twice a day, once when you get up in the morning and once before going to bed at night. This will keep your teeth germ free. Brushing before going to bed at night helps in ensuring that no food particles are left behind to rot in your mouth. Avoid using toothpicks as these could rupture your gums, and lead to a severe toothache.
- Rinsing your mouth with warm water will provide you with effective relief. Warm water will help in eliminating any germs present in your cavities, and will also soothe your inflamed gums.
- You may apply a warm compress on the affected tooth externally. This helps in easing the pain in the nerves connecting to your jaws, thus reducing the pain and discomfort.
- Chewing on a piece of clove will also provide you with temporary relief from the pain and discomfort. Clove contains methyl salicylate which is an effective rubefacient (painkiller). Thus it helps in dilating the capillaries and reduces the pain. You may also use clove oil instead of clove to experience effective relief. Make sure you do not consume the oil as it could cause nausea.
