Urinary tract infection or UTI is an infection that affects a patient’s urinary tract. While women face this condition due to the short distance between their urethra and bladder, this condition does not affect men as easily. However, when it does affect men, this condition tends to be very serious and extremely painful.
A urinary tract infection begins in the urinary tract and gradually moves upwards affecting the bladder on the way, and ultimately damaging the kidneys. A urinary tract infection becomes a life threatening condition once it reaches the kidneys, and hence it should not be neglected in the initial stages.
Men usually require a stronger doze of antibiotics when faced with this condition. In most cases hospitalization is imperative, as the pain and damage caused by this condition in men is quite serious. Most men experience frequent fevers, back pain, groin pain, abdominal pain, pus or blood in the urine, and a frequent urge to urinate. Please visit your doctor as soon as possible for a thorough checkup and diagnosis. A doctor will also prescribe certain antibiotics in order to treat the infection. Home remedies will only help in soothing the pain, and will speed up your recovery process.
- Baking soda is quite effective when it comes to treating urinary tract infections. Baking soda basically increases the acidic level of a patient’s urine, thereby eliminating the bacteria causing UTI. Add one teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water and consume this solution once a day.
- Cranberries are believed to have very strong anti bacterial properties. You can drink one glass of cranberry juice daily in order to treat your condition. You may simply eat this fruit to experience the same results. Blueberries are your next best option as they too possess effective anti bacterial properties.
- Pineapple is another effective fruit that can speed up your recovery process. Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromrlain that is effective in getting rid of bacteria. However, this should be taken along with the prescribed medication, as it may not be effective on its own accord. You may also eat the fruit instead of drinking its juice.
- Drink plenty of water, as this will help in flushing the infection out of your urinary tract. You may also consume fruit juices that are rich in vitamin C as these will help in boosting your body’s immune system.
- UTI can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, therefore avoid indulging in unprotected sex until this condition has been successfully treated.
