Piles also known as hemorrhoids, is a common condition that is experienced by many people around the world. Piles occur when the veins present in the lower rectum get swollen and inflamed. Piles can be separated into two categories; internal piles and external piles.
In internal piles, the swollen or inflamed vein remains inside the rectum. Thus a person experiencing this condition may not detect it until it becomes extremely painful and severe. However, in external piles the vein swells and starts to protrude out of the anal region. External piles can be easily detected as they lie on the outside of the anal canal. Also, the pain caused by external piles is unbearable, as it makes normally effortless activities like sitting, sleeping on ones back, and walking extremely painful.
Excessive straining during bowel movements, constipation, strenuous activities that put pressure on the rectum muscles like weightlifting and cycling, sitting in a constant position for long hours, and sitting in the toilet for a long period of time are the main causes of piles. In most cases, people who are 50 years or older are more susceptible to this condition, as the tissues of the body loses its elasticity over a period of time. The treatment of external piles depends on the severity of the condition. You may use home remedies in order to treat your condition; however, you must realize that the doctor is the best person who can suggest the most appropriate form of treatment; he may also recommend surgery in order to push your inflamed vein back into its place. In the meanwhile, these simple remedies will help you get rid of the pain effectively.
- Soak in a warm bath for 15 minutes in order to experience effective relief from the painful swelling. You can alternate this by applying a cold compress on the affected area. A cold compress will help in numbing the inflamed vein, thereby soothing the pain and discomfort.
- You may also apply over-the-counter corticosteroid creams that can help in reducing the swelling and pain caused by this condition. If you are experiencing severe itching, you may apply witch hazel on your affected area.
- Eat plenty of fiber rich foods in order to avoid constipation while experiencing this condition. Fiber is essential in transporting waste out of the body. Therefore, a lack of fiber can cause constipation, which is the primary cause of piles.
- In case you notice bleeding, drink a solution made from 10 grams of finely ground black mustard powder in a glass of goat’s milk every morning. You may add a little sugar to this mixture to make it more palatable.
