Piles, also referred to as hemorrhoids is a common condition that affects many people around the world. Piles occur when the veins present in the lower rectum region become swollen and inflamed. Excessive straining during bowel movements and sitting in a particular position for a long period of time are two of the most common causes of piles.
Strenuous activities that place excessive pressure on the rectum tissues can cause inflammation and swelling of the veins present in the lower rectum region. Therefore, you should avoid cycling, weightlifting and other related exercises.
Pregnancy is another reason as to why a person may encounter this painful condition. During pregnancy, the lower abdominal region of a woman swells on order to accommodate the growing fetus. This places additional pressure on the lower rectum. This condition tends to normalize after childbirth. Piles can be categorized into internal and external piles. Internal piles is a condition in which the veins swell within the anus. This may cause a patient to notice bloody stools, and pain while passing stools. On the other hand, in external piles, the swollen veins protrude out side the anus. This is a very painful situation as the veins jut out of the anus making normal activities like walking or even sitting, a very painful experience.
Most cases of external piles can be treated effectively with the help of non invasive procedures. Doctors usually recommend over the counter ointments and creams in order to relieve the pain experienced by a patient. If the pain is extremely unbearable, a doctor may also prescribe the use of pads in order to ease the pressure placed on the piles affected area. He may also administer suppositories in order to relieve the pain and irritation. In some cases, the doctor may consider surgical intervention in order to push the swollen vein back into the rectum. Home remedies are quite effective in treating mild cases of piles. However, it is very important to visit a doctor in order to determine the seriousness of your condition. In the meanwhile, you may use these simple home remedies to relieve the pain and burning sensation. • Eat a fiber rich diet and drink plenty of warm water. This will help in ensuring that you experience smooth bowel movements. This will help to ease the strain and pressure while passing stools. • Apply warm and cold compresses alternately on the affected region. This will help in easing the painful and burning sensation caused by this condition. You can also relax by soaking yourself in a warm bath for effective relief from the pain and discomfort. • You can apply aloe vera gel on your piles and the affected area in order to soothe the inflamed veins.
