Cholera is an infection of intestine caused by a toxin producing bacteria vibrio cholerae clinically leading to profuse watery diarrhea. Infection is spread generally through infected food or water due to poor sanitation. Administration of cholera vaccine may protect you from getting the infection; however it is very important to get a booster dose of vaccine every 6 months.
Cholera vaccine is made by taking the whole cholera bacteria and inactivating it with a chemical. After injecting it works by causing an immune response against cholera. But unfortunately to prevent cholera its vaccine is only about 50% effective.
The vaccine has to be taken under the supervision of your specialist; the dose will vary for different individuals and has to be decided by your specialist.
