PCOD or polycystic ovarian disease is a common problem that affects women. It is generally a temporary disorder that can be reversed with proper care and polycystic ovarian disease treatment. It is important to maintain a balanced and healthy diet if you suffer from PCOD to help control its symptoms.
PCOD could be the result of number of factors. These include an excessive production of insulin by the pancreas or an excessive production of testosterone by the ovaries. The condition is generally characterized by symptoms like irregular periods, acne, fluctuations in weight and also excessive growth of facial and body hair. If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, then you should consult your doctor immediately. PCOD can be cared for with the help of a few dietary changes to help reduce and balance weight.
Weight gain is one of the most common consequences of PCOD and it can thus be remedied effectively with the help of a strictly regulated diet. You can help control your weight using the following dietary tips. Firstly, ensure that you control your regular intake of carbohydrates in your daily diet. This will help you reduce weight effectively. Choose foods that have a slow carbohydrate release system when they are digested to help control your weight. For instance, increase your consumption of foods like fresh fruit, vegetables, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread and brown rice to help control your carbohydrate intake. In addition, choosing the right kind of fats in your diet will also help you control your weight. For instance, substitute your fat intake with polyunsaturated fats to help keep your diet healthy. Examples of unsaturated fats include olive oil, canola oil, margarine and butter. While limiting your carbohydrate and fat intake to help keep your weight under control, it is also important to keep up a steady intake of protein. Protein helps the body burn fat and it helps repair cells, muscles, bones and hormones and also helps prevent infections. Include foods that are rich in protein to help regulate your weight. Foods that are rich in protein include foods like eggs, fish, chicken, yogurt, lean meat and cheese. It is also important to maintain a healthy and nutritious diet if you are going to conceive. You require plenty of exercise and a diet rich in nutrition and vitamins to help improve your reproductive health. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole wheat products to help lose weight and increase your reproductive health.
