Yeast infections could occur in both men and women and is not restricted to the vaginal area or groin region, rather it can occur between toes and fingers and in the underarm region. The minute organisms called yeast are already present in the human body in small numbers and an infection develops when they grow uncontrollably. In the vaginal area, these organisms are kept in check by the acidity levels.

However, during menstruation, pregnancy and if the person has been using birth control pills, the numbers of this micro-organism grows causing the itching. Hormonal changes in the body, frequent intercourse over a short period of time, intercourse in unhygienic conditions and clothing that is too tight can also cause an infection. The most common symptoms of a yeast infection apart from itching are a burning sensation and swelling of the skin surrounding the vagina and the spot becomes acutely sensitive and tender to touch. Some people may experience a discharge of colorless and odorless thick white fluid. Sexual intercourse can also be accompanied by intense pain. The cervix pain and bloating could be an indication that the infection has spread upwards and will require immediate medical attention. Alternatively, it may not be connected to the yeast infection at all and could be cramps or a build up of gas. This can occur if you are allergic to the medicine prescribed. It would do therefore advisable for you to consult your physician over this.

On the home front use a hot water bottle wrapped in cloth to give some relief from the pain. Avoid wearing tight fitting undergarments and switch to cotton panties to allow the area to breathe. Do not douche the area or use any feminine sprays as this would aggravate the infection. Avoid bubble baths and long soaks in scented bath water. Instead, take quick showers and keep the area dry at all times. Always wipe the region from front to back to avoid any bacterial contact from the rectal to the vaginal area. Wash the area with a little apple cider vinegar that has been diluted. Drink a cup of plain unflavored yoghurt every day to ensure that the bacterial balance in your body stays right. Drink plenty of water so that the body is able to flush out the toxins and a good deal of the harmful bacteria from your body. Make sure that your diet consists of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, lean meat, fish and pulses.
