While obesity is such a common condition that it is considered to be a pandemic in some regions of the world, it is easy to completely forget the other side of the spectrum and the dangers of being underweight. Most people that consider themselves too thin, however, make the mistake of assuming that it is how much you eat rather than what you eat that will help you put on weight. This is probably the biggest misconception one could possibly have given the targets in mind.
It helps to keep in mind the fact that the food you eat is converted into calories within the body that is burnt to generate the energy. The body requires this energy to perform the tasks it carries out over the course of the day. The rate at which it burns the calories is known as a person’s metabolism and is one of the most important physiological processes within the human body. This entire process is also used to control the body weight. It is only when the calorie intake out weighs the amount burned that an individual will noticeably begin putting on weight. However, another aspect that one should keep in mind is not simply to put on weight, but be able to tone that weight into muscle and maintain a sleek body shape.
A few tips that can help you put on the weight you crave include drinking at least a couple of glasses of milk on a daily basis. This should be supplemented with avoiding any junk food intake – which does not help as much as it may seem when it comes to putting on weight as they contain large amounts of unhealthy trans fats or saturated fats. It is also important to remember that a number of internal conditions such as chronic diseases and eating disorders could be the likely cause of you lack of body mass. Being too thin also increases an individual’s likelihood of suffering from heart failure or even cancer. When preparing your meals, make sure to include high amounts of omega 3 fatty acid sources such as salmon, tuna, flax and walnuts. Healthy carbohydrate intake is also important and can be easily found in a number of fruits vegetables and whole grains. It is also important to make sure that you keep a constant record of your calorie intake on a regular basis while also keeping an eye on your weight. Include a lot of starch based foods in your diet such as potato, corn or sweet potato.
