How to get rid of a cyst
(30 Mar 2010)

A cyst is shaped in the form a sac that is closed and contains either fluid, air or a semi solid material and most of them do not pose any harm to the body. They normally go away on their own but if that is not the case it needs to be removed through surgery. A cyst can be formed in any part of the body and may be either external or internal.

A cyst could take birth on the surface of the skin or on the surface of a particular organ or in the space that is available between the muscles and skin tissues. However, majority of the cysts are formed on the surface of the skin especially around the back, head and neck that look like tiny lumps. There are a number of factors that result in the formation of a cyst like tumors, infections, severe inflammation or because of blockages or obstructions that result from the movement of fluids. The exact cause for their existence is, however, not known. You can diagnose the presence of a cyst with the help of certain exams if it is internal or else can see them with your bare eyes if they are on your skin.

If at all the cyst is tiny and painless, does not itch and has not become red, it is best you leave it on its own. However, if it turns red and there is some fluid oozing out, you can dip a cloth in warm water and apply it on the cyst. Follow this procedure a number of times throughout the day as it helps in improving the blood circulation to this area and helps calm down the pain. A paste made by mixing turmeric and mint juice should be applied on the cyst for about fifteen minutes as this helps in cooling down the skin. You can apply a mix of sandalwood paste and rose water on the cyst and keep it for about half an hour. Some people feel the symptoms lower down if you cut down on your intake of caffeinated drinks. Incase you observe, that the cyst is becoming big or if it is hurting and oozing or has swell up, you need to visit a dermatologist as it may be indicating a serious infection. Also, incase the cyst bursts, you are at a higher risk of getting an infection so it is advised you seek the doctor’s help.
