Dark lips can be very unattractive and very difficult to deal with. Dark lips are not a skin disorder. It should not even be considered as a person's shortcoming. However, dark lips can affect a person's beauty. One of the major factors which cause dark lips is a habit of smoking. Since you are not a smoker, there are other factors which might be the reason behind the darkening of your lips. Use of B standard lip sticks and other such cosmetics can cause darkening of the lips. Such cosmetics might have a negative impact on the skin which in turn darkens or damages the skin. Over consumption of caffeine such as coffee can make the tone of the lips darker. Sunburn or allergies can also darken the lips. It is advised that any of the habits mentioned above should be stopped before going ahead with any kind of remedy. If it is one of these habits that is causing the darkening, then the remedies advised won’t be effective unless one quits that habit.

There are several home remedies which can help in reducing the blackness of the lips. Use natural beach like lime juice or apple cider vinegar. Use a clean cotton ball and dip it in the lime juice or apple cider vinegar and then apply it on the lips. Make a mixture of glycerin and honey and apply it on the lips. It can help restore the natural softness and also helps in improving the color of the lips. Banana is said to be effective in restoring the natural color of the lips. Make a paste of banana and apply it on the lips. Also unflavored yogurt could be of great help. Apply unflavored yogurt on the lips every night before going to sleep to reduce the darkening.

Try and consider butter, almonds and milk. After washing your lips, apply almond oil or almond milk. One can also apply the cream which forms on the milk or else even butter. Exfoliate the lips every alternate day. Gently exfoliate the lips with a soft brush or else use a lip scrub to do so. This will help remove the dead cells on the outermost layer and reveal the natural color of the lips, making them look vibrant and natural. Keep your lips moisturized. Carry Vaseline or lip balm with you and apply it regularly throughout the day. This will keep the lips moisturized and will also protect the lips. If none of this helps, consult a dermatologist.
