Dandruff is a condition where the scalp forms flakes which keep on falling usually on the shoulders and clothes. There is also excessive scales formation seen on the scalp, which can be a very irritating condition and is usually associated with bacteria. Dandruff is a condition caused by infections which can spread through the use of common towels, soaps, combs and hairbrushes.
Dandruff can be of two types the dry dandruff and the waxy dandruff. The dandruff which causes small white flakes and itchiness is the dry type of dandruff, whereas the waxy dandruff is when the scales formed on the epidermis get mixed with the sebum and this type of dandruff usually sticks to the skin in patches. Dandruff is caused due to impairment of general health or when a toxic condition is developed. This can happen due to constipation, wrong diet and low vitality due to infectious diseases. Other factors causing dandruff are excessive use of strong shampoos, exposure to cold, harsh shampoos and general exhaustion.
There are many simple and effective home remedies to cure dandruff. Fenugreek seeds can be used to treat the condition of dandruff. Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water. Let them stay in water overnight. In the morning grind the seeds and make a paste. Apply this paste all over the scalp and let it stay for half an hour. Then wash hair but do not use shampoo, instead use soap-nut or acacia concinna. Lime can also work effectively for the removal of dandruff. While washing hair, use a teaspoon of fresh lime juice during the last rinse. Mixing green gram powder with some curd and using it for washing hair and scalp can help solve the problem of dandruff. Maintaining the right diet is necessary to get rid of dandruff. To remove dandruff completely, one can go for an all fruit diet for at least five days. Take a meal of fruity and nutritive fruits thrice in a day. Avoid intake of citrus fruits such as oranges, bananas, sweet melons till the scalp is clean and without any signs of dandruff. Resume the normal diet slowly after five days. Emphasize on raw fruits and vegetables. Follow the all fruits diet monthly to keep dandruff away and to prevent it from returning. Foods such as meat, tea, coffee, white flour, sugar, condiments, refined and processed foods and pickles should be avoided in order to prevent dandruff.
