Humans today are exposed to high levels of poisons, and are therefore prone to contracting many sicknesses. Poisoning can be extremely dangerous and can prove fatal if not treated in time. Both humans as well animals can be poisoned in a number of ways either through food, air that is inhaled, toxins and water.
When we talk of poisoning, the first type that comes to your head is food poisoning but that is just one part of it. Air pollution is said to be one of the most common ways of poisoning. Industrialization and burning of fossil fuels has contaminated the air releasing toxins causing illnesses like asthma, increased the risk of cancer and a whole lot of other air borne diseases.
Food poisoning occurs because of harmful toxins or bacteria that your food could contain. The symptoms that accompany food poisoning generally are vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and pain in the abdomen. If the food poisoning is severe, it can lead to serious complications and thus would require immediate treatment. There are an increasing number of pesticides that are sprayed on growing crops and by the consumption of such foods we are exposed to chemicals that are could also be life threatening. Campylobacter is a bacterium that is found in poultry products and these bacteria can spoil the meat if it is not kept in a clean storage space. E.Coli is another bacterium that is the root cause for food borne illness and although it is said that this bacteria is not harmful, sometimes it may cause a considerable amount of damage to the body. It is accompanied by a severe pain in the stomach and can also cause bloody diarrhea or a kidney failure. Salmonella is a common cause for food poisoning and is normally found in raw milk and intestinal tracts of animals. Most people, however, are known to recover from this condition in a short span of time. However there have been some rare cases where individuals have taken a longer time to recover.
In order to avoid food poisoning it is necessary to firstly maintain good and proper hygiene. One should wash their hands well before cooking. Make sure that you cook your food well as bacteria cannot survive in high temperature and thus will not contaminate the food. When your food smells bad throw it away immediately so that the other food does not get spoilt. Whenever you go out, cover yourself well and wear a mask covering your nose that would filter the air that you inhale.
