Home Remedies for Hemorrhoids

My daughter is facing minor piles and not passing stools last couple of days. is there any homely remedy for this?

Piles, medically known as hemorrhoids is a painful condition in which the veins in a patient’s lower rectum and anus get inflamed and swollen. The veins present in the lower rectum get swollen or inflamed when additional pressure is exerted on them. This added pressure could be caused by straining while passing stools due to constipation, or due to sitting in a particular position for long hours, or even due to indulging in rigorous activities like cycling or weight lifting.

Piles are categorized into internal piles and external piles. In internal piles the vein swells inside the anus. Therefore, internal piles do not show any symptoms on the exterior of the anus, and are therefore difficult to detect. Symptoms of internal piles include blood in the stool and severe pain while passing stools. In external piles the veins protrude out of the anus and form a small lump at the anal opening. External piles are very painful, as they make normal activities like sitting down, lying down on the back and walking extremely painful. Although, piles can be treated with the help of home remedies, you must visit the doctor if your daughter’s condition does not improve within two days.
  • Excessive straining due to constipation is the primary cause of piles; therefore, you must begin by eliminating this condition. In order to achieve this you will need to ensure that your daughter consumes a fiber-rich diet until her condition improves. Vegetables like cooked beets, boiled carrots, cooked peas, cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, coleslaw and baked potatoes are very rich in fiber.  Cereals and grains like bran cereal, whole wheat bread, oats and whole wheat pasta are also rich in fiber. All these foods provide the digestive tract with roughage; thus ensuring smooth and effective bowel movements. You may also encourage your daughter to snack on delicious and fiber-rich fruits like apples, bananas, apricots, grapefruit and the likes.
  • Water is also very essential when it comes to treating piles. Water ensures that the body remains hydrated. Drinking a glass of warm water also helps to stimulate  effective bowel movements. You should therefore ensure that your daughter begins her day with a warm glass of water. You can add a teaspoon of honey and lemon juice to the water for better results.
  • In order to soothe the pain or burning sensation allow your daughter to soak in a warm Epsom salt bath. You may also apply cold compresses on the affected area in order to reduce the swelling and pain.
  • Applying aloe vera gel on the affected veins will also prove beneficial. Aloe vera will soothe the inflamed veins and reduce the burning sensation caused by piles.
  • Avoid giving your daughter processed, artificially flavored, or artificially sweetened foods and beverages, as this will worsen her condition.
