Epilepsy Alternative Treatment

Causes and remedies of Epilepsy
(11 Feb 2010)

Epilepsy is a condition that is primarily a chronic neurological disorder and is characterized by recurrent seizures that are the result of abnormal activity in the brain’s nerve cells. This results in a temporary disturbance of the brain’s sensory, motor or even mental functions and capacities. Depending on what part of the brain is involved, a number of different types of seizures can occur.

The term epilepsy covers a wide range of seizures and does not specify any single type of seizure or root cause. But the fact that the seizures happen on a regular basis is probably the most defining factor of the condition.

Epilepsy is a very common condition all over the world and most recent studies show that about 50 million adults and children suffer from it at this point. These reports also show that about 90% of this population resides in developing countries and the condition happens to be more prevalent in children and in adults above the age of 60. The condition has varying degrees of severity where in the milder cases; the patient may only be affected to a point where it has a minimal impact of blackouts that can be aided with the help of modern medicine while in the more severe cases, the long lasting and violent outbreaks may not be able to be controlled by medicine. All types of the condition will have a substantial impact on the affected individual’s life including his/her social as well as professional circles. When affected by epilepsy, the individual needs to learn to be able to deal with stress as stress is known to be one of the most common triggers of the condition.

Because of the fact that epilepsy is such a common condition, there are a number of home remedies that will help control the condition. A herb known as brahmi root (Bacopa) is known to be very beneficial when dealing with epilepsy. All that is required is to squeeze about half a teaspoon of the juice from the plant and sweeten it with equal quantities of honey. Consume this concoction three times daily for best results. You can also start applying mud packs to the abdominal area twice a day in order to help remove any toxic conditions within the intestines and thereby, speed up the improvement of epileptic conditions. When dealing with an epileptic child, it is essential that you encourage the child to lead a normal life.
