UTI is the abbreviation for a common condition known as urinary tract infection. This condition primarily affects the urinary system consisting of the urethra, ureters, bladder, and the kidneys. This condition can affect anyone; however, women are more susceptible to this condition, as the distance between the urethra and bladder is very small.
A urinary tract infection should not be ignored because this condition spreads from the urethra to the bladder, ultimately ending up in the kidney of the patient. Once a urinary tract infection reaches the kidneys, it can cause kidney damage and even kidney failure.
Some of the most common symptoms of a urinary tract infection are a frequent urge to urinate, painful and burning sensation while urinating, presence of blood in the urine, passing small amounts of urine frequently and bacteria in the urine. The last symptom can only be identified with the help of a urine test. A urinary tract infection is caused when the bacteria commonly present in the anus known as Escherichia coli infects the urethra or bladder. Home remedies are helpful in relieving the pain and discomfort caused by this condition. However, formal medication in the form of antibiotics is important in order to get rid of this condition completely.
- Baking soda is very effective in treating urinary tract infections. Baking soda helps in raising the acidic level of urine, thus killing the bacteria causing UTI. Add one teaspoon of baking soda to 250 ml of water and drink this solution once a day.
- Cranberry juice is also very effective in eliminating urinary tract infections. Drink at least two glasses of cranberry juice daily in order to experience effective relief. Cranberry juice contains polyphenol antioxidants that strengthen the immune system thus enabling it to fight off bacterial infections.
- Garlic is also well known for its anti bacterial and anti fungal properties; therefore, increasing your dietary intake of garlic will also help you in getting rid of this condition effectively.
- You can place a heating pad or warm compresses on your bladder region in order to experience relief from the pain and burning sensation.
- You must also make sure that you consume at least four liters of water daily when suffering from a urinary tract infection. Water will help the body in flushing out the infection through the urine.
- Aromatherapy is also very useful when it comes to treating urinary tract infections. For this purpose you can mix tea tree oil, bergamot oil, sandalwood oil, juniper oil and frankincense oil in equal amounts along with a carrier oil and apply it to your bladder region. Apply this blend of essential oils daily until the infection is completely eliminated.
