Back pain is a very common complaint among pregnant women. This is because your baby is growing bigger by the day and the added weight puts a strain on your back muscles. Although there is not much that you can do about the added weight, what you can do is strengthen your back muscles.

It was previously thought that exercising during pregnancy could have a negative impact on the mother and baby. Research has shown that far from having a negative impact, exercise during pregnancy has very positive effects on both the mother and child. Exercise will help to ease labor pains and increase blood circulation to the baby. It also helps to strengthen the muscles of the back. However, in order to have significant effects, it is important to exercise on a daily basis. This is because although you will need to exercise, you will not b able to include any vigorous exercises in your daily exercise schedule. There are many exercises that are specifically meant for pregnant women and are especially effective in strengthening the back muscles. You can join a prenatal exercise class so that you have adequate guidance.

Yoga for expectant mother has been gaining recognition in recent years. Yoga comprises of various poses that help to strengthen the muscles without straining them. The poses are generally performed very slowly and this minimizes the risks of muscles strains. Yoga breathing exercises are also very helpful for pregnant mothers as it promotes the oxygenation of the blood. This ensures that your baby and you receive an adequate amount of oxygen which reduces fatigue and body aches.

There are several other exercises like side bends and seated twists that help to strengthen the muscles of the back and reduce back pain. It is best not to exercise alone as improper technique can have very serious and significant negative effects. You can either have an instructor or trainer or you can opt for exercises classes.

In addition to all of this, you can also have regular back massages by a specialized massage therapist. This will help to reduce muscle tension and will reduce back aches. Make sure that you do not sit or stand for prolonged periods as this will increase the stress on your back. You will also have to avoid wearing high heeled shoes while you are pregnant as high heeled shoes place additional stress on the back, calves and feet.
