Gingivitis is the most common form of a mild gum infection. In fact in most cases, gingivitis goes unnoticed for quite some time until the pain and swelling become more severe. While facing this condition an individual will notice a slight swelling and inflammation in his or her gums.
Although it is a very common and mild condition, gingivitis should not be ignored, as it could lead to far worse oral conditions if left untreated. The first signs of gingivitis are bleeding or sore gums. You can treat gingivitis at home using simple home remedies; however, if your condition does not improve make sure that you visit your dentist immediately.
- The treatment for gingivitis should start with maintaining proper oral hygiene. Gingivitis is caused by lack or oral hygiene, therefore its treatment also begins with this remedy. Brush your teeth in gentle circular motions at least twice everyday. If possible brush your teeth lightly after every meal.
- Rinse your mouth with warm water after meals at your work place, where brushing would not be possible. Warm water helps in displacing the food particles that get stuck in the gaps of our teeth. This also helps in avoiding the use of toothpicks that are harmful to the gums. Warm water also stimulates saliva production and helps to reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth.
- In order to treat your gum infection you can apply clove oil or suck on a piece of clove to gain effective relief. Clove acts as an effective painkiller and anti bacterial agent. It also helps in sterilizing the mouth and gums, thus providing instant relief from the gum irritation caused by this condition.
- In order to get relief from the pain you may also rinse your mouth with alcohol. Alcohol possesses anti bacterial properties, as well as works as an effective anodyne (pain reliever). You must use consumable alcohol and not rubbing alcohol for this purpose.
- For another effective mouth wash you may use apple cider vinegar with water. Rinsing your mouth with this solution will help you overcome your gum infection effectively.
- Another valuable remedy for treating this type of infection is the use of aloe vera gel. Aloe vera forms a covering over the infected gums, thus protecting it from further infection.
- Eating apples will also help to speed up your recovery process. Apples have long been associated with dental health care due to the presence of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamin B6 which are helpful in maintaining healthy and strong teeth.
