Since you have already been to the doctor a couple of times, it would be advisable to go in for a couple of tests to ensure that you do not have any infection. In many cases, a mild infection may go unnoticed and would only show up in a test. You can go in to your local hospital and enquire about the various tests available.
A vaginal test would include taking a vaginal swab which can then be studied under a microscope for the presence of bacteria.
Apart from a vaginal infection, there could be several reasons for a smelly discharge. This problem often occurs in women who use douches frequently.
Douching flushes the entire vaginal canal and although this may seem like a good hygiene practice, the problem is that the vagina is also home to healthy bacteria that control the growth of unhealthy bacteria. It is therefore not advisable to use a douche on a regular basis unless your doctor has specifically asked you to do so. You may experience a reduction in the odor but this will only be a temporary result and invariably the smell is back within a few days and is generally much worse.
Wash yourself at least once or twice a day with a mild soap and warm water. This will ensure that any bacteria present will be eliminated. Have fresh unflavored yogurt on a daily basis as it is rich in healthy bacteria that help to maintain the healthy bacterial colony within the vagina. This will prevent any other bacteria from gaining a foothold and causing a foul odor. Chop up a few cloves of garlic and add them to your food while cooking. Garlic has very strong anti-microbial properties and will help to kill off any unwanted bacteria within your system. You should also make sure that you only wear cotton panties as cotton allows air to circulate and prevents the buildup of warmth and moisture. Nylon panties and other synthetic materials do not allow the air to circulate which results in the entire area becoming warm and moist. This is the perfect breeding grounds for bacteria and so these materials should be avoided completely. You can also dry and crush Margosa leaves and use this powder to dust yourself before you go to bed. Margo leaves have strong anti-microbial properties and will help to control vaginal odors.
It is important to keep in mind that normally vaginal discharges do not have a strong odor and that the presence of any odor should not be ignored.
