Treatment for swollen throat

A swollen throat is most often caused by bacterial infections that affect the throat. A swollen throat could also be a symptom of a common condition known as tonsillitis. Tonsillitis is basically a bacterial infection that affects the softy fleshy pads situated at the back of the neck. This infection causes the throat to swell and feel itchy. Most cases of swollen throat or tonsillitis can be treated at home with the help of simple home remedies and a few lifestyle changes.   • Drink warm water throughout the day in order to soothe your inflamed throat. Warm water helps in keeping the throat moist and soothes the irritation effectively. It also helps in getting rid of the throat infection effectively.

  • Drinking a cup of green tea early in the morning will also help soothe your inflamed throat. Green tea possesses several healing and calming properties that can help you overcome this condition.
  • Gargling with warm salt water is another effective remedy when it comes to soothing an inflamed throat. Add a teaspoon of salt to a glass (200 ml) of warm water. Gargle with this solution at least 3 times a day. You will experience effective relief from the burning sensation within minutes of following this simple home remedy. Salt contains iodine that is very important for the proper functioning of the thyroid glands; warm water soothes the inflamed throat. Salt also possesses anti bacterial qualities which help in getting rid of the infection.
  • For another effective remedy you can consume turmeric mixed with honey. Turmeric contains anti bacterial and anti fungal properties, and honey helps in soothing the throat inflammation. Add 2 pinches of turmeric powder to a teaspoon of honey and consume this mixture thrice a day in order to notice positive results.
  • You may also add one teaspoon of turmeric to a glass of milk and drink this solution before going to bed at night.
