Sarcoptes scabiei is a tiny mite that causes an itchy skin condition called scabies. Scabies is quite a painful condition since the irritation caused by the bite of the mite causes one to scratch relentlessly. Sarcoptes scabiei is a very tiny eight legged mite that is very contagious and can spread through physical contact with a person or pet affected by it.
These mites create minute burrows on the surface of the skin that cause sever itching and a burning sensation on the skin of an affected individual. This is a very irritating condition for a person to deal with, and treatment often includes treating the entire family, as this condition spreads quickly. It is best if you could visit a doctor when faced with this itchy condition. Home remedies although effective, is not capable of producing overnight results when compared with allopathic medicines and creams prescribed by doctors. Home remedies can be used along with contemporary treatment provided by health experts. Here are a few home remedies you can try in order to experience effective relief from scabies.
- Do not scratch your body when affected by scabies. This is because scratching will not only rupture your sore skin, but will also help in spreading the infection. Instead of scratching, you can apply cold compresses to the affected areas of the body. Applying a cold compress will soothe your inflamed skin and provide you with effective relief.
- For another pain relieving remedy, you may apply calamine lotion in order to experience effective relief.
- A paste made out of margosa oil and turmeric powder is very effective when it comes to treating scabies. Margosa oil contains effective pesticide qualities. Turmeric contains skin healing and anti bacterial properties. When mixed together they help in eliminating scabies.
- Tea tree oil is also very effective when it comes to treating scabies. You may add 20 – 30 drops of tea tree oil to a tub of warm water and soak in it. You may also apply tea tree oil on your skin directly for effective results. However, make sure you use diluted tea tree oil, as tea tree oil is very strong in its concentrated form, and can burn the skin.
- Wash the infected person’s clothes with tea tree oil or any commercially available disinfectant. This will reduce the chances of the condition from spreading to the others around. It will also help in preventing re-infestation.
