High Creatine Level

how to reduce the creatine level in blood
( 9 Oct 2009)

Creatine is an organic acid that is present in all human beings as well as other vertebrates. It is responsible for the supply of energy to the muscles of the body. Intense muscular effort requires creatine and results in the formation of Creatinine.

This break- down product is produced by the body at a relatively constant rate and depends on the muscle mass of the individual. The higher the muscle mass, the greater the amount of Creatinine produced. Creatinine is a waste product and is filtered by the kidneys and then expelled from the body through urine.

Elevated levels of Creatinine generally indicate reduced kidney function. If the kidneys are unable to filter and dispose Creatinine, Creatinine levels in the blood increase. Creatinine clearance tests help to measure kidney function as they calculate the amount of Creatinine being filtered out of the system. If the kidneys become impaired for any reason, the Creatinine level in the blood will rise due to poor clearance by the kidneys. Diabetes often causes kidney problems and this in turn would affect Creatinine levels. Your doctor will have to ascertain the reason for the rise as there could be other causes apart from renal failure. The frequent use of antibiotic medications too can cause an increase in these levels.

In most cases, regular tests as well as medication to reduce the levels help to keep this condition in check. You will also have to follow a low- protein diet. However, you will have to talk to your doctor about your diet as your protein intake will have to be based on your body weight as well as your level of regular physical activity. You should also drink plenty of water as this will help to keep your system well flushed and will lower Creatinine levels. There are also several home remedies that you can use, but make sure to discuss them with your doctor as there could be contraindications. Cinnamon is a simple house hold spice that has been used to treat kidney problems. Cinnamon helps to strengthen weakened kidneys and promotes the filtration process. Siberian Ginseng too is thought to be very helpful in stimulation circulation and is considered to be beneficial in the treatment of renal disorders. Herbal tea made out of Dandelion leaves have diuretic properties. Diuretics help to increase the amount of urine produced by the body and so they are helpful in improving sluggish kidney functioning.
