Insect bites can be particularly uncomfortable or even painful depending on the insect that has bitten you. Most insect bites cause itching and a rash although some may cause inflammation, severe swelling, and pain. One of the most important rules to keep in mind with any insect bite is that you should never scratch the area.
Scratching your skin will damage your skin and can cause scarring. In addition to this, it can also cause a secondary infection. One of the most common secondary infections is boils.
Although small boils may erupt as a reaction to the insect bites a secondary infection can cause large pus filled boils that are extremely painful and leave lifelong scars.
The first thing to do is wash the area well with an antimicrobial soap and warm water. The warm water may increase your discomfort but this is just temporary. After that you can apply a cold compress to your skin as this will help to decrease the itching sensation. You can make a soothing poultice and apply it to the affected area for quick relief and faster healing. Home remedies such as bBlend a small piece of cucumber along with a handful of mint leaves. Add a pinch of turmeric to this paste along with a drop of peppermint essential oil and tea tree oil. Add a teaspoon of Fuller’s earth to this mixture so that it forms a thick paste with the consistency of a face mask. You can also add a few drops of Vitamin E oil to this mixture if you have some available. This natural remedy for insect bites is very effective as it helps to soothe your skin as well as promote healing. The cucumber juice, mint juice and peppermint oil help to sooth any itching and inflammation and also helps to fortify the skin. The tea tree oil prevents further bites, as it is a very effect insect repellent. Fuller’s earth helps to cleanse the skin while Vitamin E helps the skin to heal faster.
If you have been bitten by a bee or a wasp, make sure that you keep a constant check on your symptoms and rush to a hospital if you start to display any signs of an allergic reaction. Swelling as well as breathing problems are the most common early signs of an allergic reaction. If you have been bitten by a bee or insect, make sure that you remove the stinger before you wash the area and apply the poultice.
