Home Remedies for Bacteria Vaginosis

How can I cure my bacteria vaginitis at home
(24 Sep 2009)

Bacterial vaginitis or bacteria vaginosis is a common condition faced by many women around the world. A woman experiencing this condition will encounter abnormal discharge as well as pain and itching in and around the vagina. An overgrowth in the level of harmful bacteria present in the vaginal region is the most common cause of bacterial vaginitis.

In women experiencing menopause, bacterial vaginitis usually occurs as a result of decreased estrogen levels. The vagina contains certain “good” bacteria in order to keep it sterile. However, when the growth of anaerobic “bad” bacteria goes unchecked it leads to bacterial vaginosis. The most common causes that lead to an increase in the level of anaerobic bacteria are indulging in unprotected sexual intercourse, improper personal hygiene and the regular use of vaginal douches.

The most common symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are a painful, itchy and burning sensation in the vagina. However, most women also experience abnormal discharge accompanied by a strong fish like odor that emits from the vagina. This smell increases after sexual intercourse. The treatment for bacterial vaginitis comprises of relieving the symptoms and restoring the bacterial balance in the vagina. You can use home remedies to treat this condition, however you must visit your doctor immediately if you do not notice any improvement in your condition within a week’s time.
  • The most effective way of attaining relief from the burning sensation brought about by this condition is to apply a cool compress. You can use this every time you feel a burning or itchy sensation. However, make sure that you wipe yourself dry with a soft cotton towel after using this treatment. This is because a damp area will increase the presence of bacteria in the region.
  • Including yogurt in your diet will also prove very beneficial in restoring the levels of healthy bacteria in your body. Yogurt contains lactobacilli which is helpful in controlling the growth of harmful bacteria. You may also apply some yogurt topically on your vagina in order to relieve the burning sensation. Wash yourself after 15 minutes from application.
  • Apple cider vinegar possesses effective anti bacterial qualities. You may soak in a bath tub that contains 2 cups of apple cider vinegar and room temperature water. Apple cider vinegar will also help in eliminating the smell emitted out of the vagina. Do not use hot water as this will increase the burning sensation that you are experiencing.
  • Avoid wearing synthetic undergarments as these will only irritate your skin further. You can speed up your healing process by wearing cotton undergarments as this helps the skin stay dry.
