What is the indication for high RBCs and low Mean Corpuscular Volume, Low Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin, & Low Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin concentration with high red cell distribution width?

  1. High levels of RBCs in blood can be due to dehydration, hypoxia (decreased oxygen in blood), obstructive lung disease or congestive heart failure.
  2. Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) when low indicates that the size of RBC will be smaller than normal (microcytic).
  3. Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin (MCH) and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) when low indicates that the amount and percent of hemoglobin in the RBC is lower than normal respectively.


  4. Red cell distribution width when is high indicates greater variation in the size of RBCs.
