Irregular menses or the absence of menstruation is also known as amenorrhea. This is a condition in which a woman misses her monthly cycle or experiences irregular menstruation. Although women get anxious and troubled when they miss their monthly cycle, it is not an uncommon or abnormal situation to be in. This is because each woman’s body maintains a clock of its own, and the common notion of menstruation occurring after 28 days is a generalized concept.
Therefore, monthly cycles consisting of 28 days should not be treated as a universal truth, but rather as a theoretical concept. As you may have experienced, there may have been times when you must have experienced early menstruation, and times where you may have experienced delayed menstruation.
In order to understand why you are experiencing irregular menses, it is important to analyze the process itself. The process of menstruation begins when the ovaries release an egg. This process of the ovaries releasing an egg is also known as ovulation. During this time, hormonal changes occur simultaneously in order to prepare for a possible pregnancy. This is why some woman experience acne before or during their monthly cycle. If the released egg is left unfertilized, it is let out by the body along with the lining of the uterus. This cycle starts when an ovary releases an egg and ends if the egg is left unfertilized, through the shedding of the uterus lining. Sometimes it so happens that the ovaries take longer to release an egg due to hormonal imbalances, this then delays the entire process of ovulation, thus causing a woman to experience irregular menses or amenorrhea.
A woman can experience this condition as a result of sickness, hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, or as a side effect of certain medication and oral contraceptives. Check to see which of the following factors are affecting you. In case of hormonal imbalances you can follow these simple suggestions, in any other case you would need to visit your family doctor.
- Eating a healthy diet consisting of vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts and seeds is one of the most effective ways of providing your body with the essential vitamins and minerals. This in turn helps maintain a proper hormonal balance in the body.
- Parsley is very effective when it comes to ensuring normal and regular menstruation. Parsley contains apiol which is a main constituent of the female hormone estrogen. Drinking a juice made from parsley with another vegetable like carrot will prove very beneficial.
- Sesame seeds are also helpful when it comes to treating this condition. Add two teaspoons of sesame seed powder to a glass of warm water and drink this tonic twice daily.
- Avoid smoking and drinking as these interfere with the normal functioning of the body.
