No, garlic in the ear is not a remedy for a fever. However, fevers are the body's normal way of "burning up" microbes which may cause ear infections. Garlic and onions are anti-microbials. Although I do not recommend sticking a clove of garlic in a child's ear, I often recommend a few drops of garlic-infused olive oil in the ear canal or a baked (and slightly cooled) half onion, on the exterior of the ear. This should help relieve pain and "draw out" the infection. In those rare cases, when a fever is dangerously high, a slightly cool bath will work to reduce the intensity. Keep in mind, chronic ear infections are often an indication of underlying food sensitivities. http://www.countrydoc.com Dr. Karen Benton, Naturopathic Physician
