In today’s fashion conscious world, the way one looks and dresses has become increasingly important. Many people go out of their way to wear shoes that match with the color of their clothes and accessories; some may even go to the extent of wearing matching make up, irrespective of whether the particular color suits their skin color! In such a scenario it is not uncommon for people to want to color their hair and try on something new and different.

Hair coloring is one such procedure that can totally change a person’s looks for the better, or vice versa. Although considered to be safe, some hair coloring agents alter the chemical composition of the hair and make it weak and dull.

In order to understand why your hair turned white?

You will first need to understand how a hair coloring agent works. Most hair coloring formulas contain an oxidizing agent and an alkalizing agent. Hydrogen peroxide is most commonly used as the oxidizing agent, which works by entering the cortex, which contains melanin that is the natural skin and hair coloring pigment produced by the body. The hydrogen peroxide then lightens the melanin by diffusing it and replaces it with another color. The alkaline used by these hair coloring agents then work by opening up the hair shaft, thus enabling the color to penetrate deep into your hair roots. This process of oxidizing and alkalizing the hair robs the hair of moisture, and the chemicals present like hydrogen peroxide and ammonia alter the hair shaft and texture. The melanin takes time recover from this treatment; therefore the new hair strands that grow appear colorless or grey.

The only way of bringing your hair back to its normal color naturally, would be to take good care of it and avoid exposing it to harsh treatments like perming, straightening and other hair styling procedures. Avoid blow drying your hair, as this too robs the hair of its moisture. The most important thing would be to simulate the production of melanin. In order to achieve this you will have to make sure that your hair receives all the nutrition and care it requires. Massaging your hair with warm coconut oil will help in achieving this. Warm some coconut oil on low flame, once it is moderately warm; apply it on your scalp using your finger tips. Massage in gentle circular motions. This will increase the blood flow to your head and speed up your recovery. You can also make a effective oil out of the juice of Indian gooseberry, coconut oil and olive oil.

Additionally consuming foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids will also be very beneficial in restoring the health of your hair. The amount of time your hair needs to recover from its present condition will depend on the extent of hair coloration undertaken by you. Till then you could sport a short hair cut, as this will speed up your hair recovery process too.
