Kidney stones are medically referred to as renal lithiasis. In this condition small crystals are formed in a person’s kidney because of mineral deposits and accumulation of acidic salts. Usually, these minerals and salts are eliminated from the body through the passing of urine.
However, when the urine is concentrated these minerals crystallize and stick together. Over a period of time these minerals may solidify, leading to the formation of kidney stones. Therefore, the best remedy for treating kidney stones is the consumption of water. Drinking plenty of water ensures that the urine is dilute and flows smoothly, thus ridding the body of waste minerals and salts. You can make out the nature of urine by its color. Clear colored urine suggest that you are well hydrated, however when urine is yellow or dark yellow in color accompanied by a strong odor, it is concentrated, suggesting that you are dehydrated and the body requires water.
The pain caused by kidney stones is unbearable and can be felt around the back or side near the lower abdomen. In most cases of kidney stones, medical intervention may not be necessary. However, if the stone has become big enough, and refuses to dissolve, medical intervention becomes imperative. Kidney stones may be sub divided into four categories based on their composition: Calcium stones, uric acid stones, struvite stones and cystine stones. There are several home remedies for kidney stones that have proven to be very effective.
- The most important remedy, whether in home or contemporary medicine would be to drink plenty of water. You should consume at least 4 liters of water a day when experiencing kidney stones. This will ensure that the stones are passed out from the body along with the urine.
- Avoid eating oily or calcium rich foods while experiencing this condition. Alcohol, tea and coffee should also be avoided as far as possible. Consuming excess amounts of alcohol leads to dehydration and also increases the uric acid levels in the body.
- Eating two apples a day can also help in the treatment of kidney stones. Include Watermelon and grapes in your diet as these fruits contain a good amount of water content coupled with essential vitamins and minerals.
- Basil is also very effective when it comes to treating kidney stones. Basil is known to strengthen the kidneys and is useful in alleviating the symptoms of various kidney related problems. One teaspoon of basil mixed with a teaspoon of honey can be consumed daily for effective results.
