Many of us get apprehensive, skeptical and downright suspicious about the claims of yoga because yoga enthusiasts seem to offer it as a solution to every ailment. While some claims are truly ludicrous there can be no denying that yoga does offer tremendous health benefits and it involves practices and mechanisms of working that we do not fully comprehend yet. The reason why yoga’s scope is so vast can be attributed to the fact that the discipline itself is all encompassing and does not restrict itself to a fitness regime, or a discipline of flexibility and stretching, or one that focuses on stamina or mental prowess, but one that includes all of these facets of health and more.
In addition to the obvious advantages of a discipline that attends to multiple aspects of your health, there are many ailments that have multiple causes or triggers. In other words various physical and non physical mediums affect the progress of the illness, while most conventional treatments will only attend to or focus on one area of treatment. For example in the case of something as common as asthma yoga offers great benefits as it not only improves the health of the airways and lungs through breath control techniques, but it also imparts knowledge of stress management, which could otherwise trigger asthma attacks.
The meditative aspect also helps control breathing and reaction to an attack.
PMS symptoms can be unbearable for many and are experienced by most women at some point in their lives. The symptoms or condition is generally characterized by irritability, mood swings, depression, anxiety, sugar cravings, and a bloated feeling among other symptoms. Apart from the psychological manifestations of PMS there are also physical symptoms like migraines, nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue, back pain, swelling of the arms and legs and even sleeplessness. While there are many medical approaches and natural methods that can help they are all limited in their scope and are ineffective in isolation. Yoga on the other hand offers a comprehensive routine and a wholesome approach to the problem.
If you are familiar with yoga you would be aware that yoga comprises of physical practices and positions that stretch and strengthen the body, joints, and muscles and improve flexibility and stamina. It also improves balance and in addition breathing activities are combined with physical poses. Meditative practices also constitute a part of the practice. The practice therefore addresses both the psychological and physical symptoms offering relief from both. While in this case the psychological benefits are more obvious, because of the meditative practices and breathe techniques, the physical benefits can not be understated. It would however be best that you get advice from a yoga expert as to which poses you can safely practice as some poses are unsuitable for PMS as they can reverse the blood flow.
