Genital warts are medically known as condylomata acuminta. It is also commonly referred to as venereal warts. Genital warts is a sexually transmitted infection that is caused by a virus known as the human papilloma virus or HPV.

Surgery and medication are the most effective way of treating genital warts. Genital warts is a serious health condition as it can lead to cervical cancer and other cancers linked to the genital region. Genital warts appears as small boils or bumps around the genital areas, they may also appear and spread like a rash, forming small or large clusters around the genitals. Genital warts can affect men and women alike.

Women experience the formation of genital warts on the vagina, anus, vaginal wall or the neck of the uterus also known as the cervix. In men, genital warts appear on the tip of the penis, anus or the muscle containing the testicles called the scrotum. A person experiencing genital warts may notice boil-like grey or skin colored eruptions on the genital area. She/he may also notice bleeding during sexual intercourse and severe itching in the groin area. Oral sex with an infected person can also lead one to experience boils in the mouth and throat region. Genital warts need immediate medical attention as the symptoms generally occur only after 3 months from being infected. Any further delay in treatment only worsens ones condition. Visit your doctor immediately if you notice any of the above symptoms.

Your doctor will prescribe certain creams that you will have to apply topically onto your warts. These creams will cause the warts to fall off your skin. If you don’t experience any change in your condition or if it worsens, your doctor may conduct a surgery in order to get rid of the warts: freezing with liquid nitrogen, surgical excision, electrocautery and laser treatments are some of the modern techniques used in dealing with genital warts.

Home remedies in treating genital warts can only help in soothing the symptoms. You can apply aloe vera juice or gel on your warts in order to attain relief from the burning and itching sensation you may experience. Castor oil, olive oil and apple cider vinegar also prove helpful in this regard. Eating healthy is also very important. Include foods rich in vitamins and minerals like green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, nuts and seeds. This will help build your immune system and help your body fight genital warts.

Increasing your intake of folic acid and beta carotene will also prove beneficial in warding off genital warts. It is important to use a condom and make sure that you completely refrain from unprotected sex as this condition is highly infectious.
