Constipation is a very common digestive problem that is characterized by infrequent bowel movement. Constipation can cause a host of secondary and more serious conditions such as anal fissures and piles. These are caused due to extreme straining in an attempt to excrete hardened fecal matter.
Some of the most common symptoms that accompany constipation are oral ulcers, foul breath, frequent headaches and insomnia. There are several causes for constipation such as a faulty diet, a sedentary lifestyle with very little physical exercise and an inadequate fluid intake.
Psyllium husk is one of the best natural methods for treating constipation.
Psyllium husk is made up of fiber and increases the bulk of your stool allowing it to pass out of your system effortlessly. Since it has very high mucus content, it prevents the hardening of fecal matter. Mix one or two spoons of Psyllium husk with a glass of water or milk and have it every night, before you go to bed.
In order to get rid of this problem completely, you will need to make a few changes to your daily diet and lifestyle. The changes will have to start, first and foremost, with your diet. The diet for a person suffering from constipation will have to include plenty of fruits and vegetables. In all probability, you are used to a diet that is very low in fiber and the intake of fruits and vegetables will remedy this. Do not try to change your diet completely; instead slowly start to substitute unhealthy foods with high-fiber options. For example, instead of having a cup of coffee in the morning along with a doughnut, have a fruit bowl with assorted fruits that have a high fiber content. Fruits that have a high fiber content are Apples, berries, avocado, bananas, peaches and dried fruits. Do not try to substitute you main meals with salads, instead have a salad before you meals. In addition to providing you with plenty of fiber, these foods are also extremely healthy and will promote good health. Eliminate or at least reduce the amount of coffee that you drink and instead try to have fresh juices. You should also try to drink more water throughout your day. If you are not used to doing this, just place a bottle of water on your desk and have a few sips every now and then. This will increase the amount of fluids in your system and help to eliminate the problem of hardened stools.
In addition to this, you should have regular timings for your meals and follow a daily routine. This will establish a set pattern and will reduce constipation. You should exercise daily for at least 30 m minutes as this help to keep all you muscles toned. If you cannot follow a strenuous exercise schedule for health reasons, you can try Pilates or Yoga.
