Urushiol is an active oil component of the plant poison ivy which is responsible for the allergic reactions on the body. - After contact with the plant wash the skin immediately with soap and water, thus leaving less time for urushiol to act.
- Warm water compress when applied around eyes will help in inflammation.
- Rub inner side of a banana peel to get relief from itching.
- Apply aloe vera juice near the eye; this will act as a coolant providing instant relief.
If the redness and inflammation is severe contact a specialist.
In future - Learn to identify this plant and avoid any contact with poison ivy.
- Wash the clothes or garden tools properly before getting them in the house, to avoid further spreading of the allergen.
- Wear full sleeves clothes while wandering in woods, and avoid your pets to wander in the woods, as they might get urushiol along with them on their furs.
