Acne is a very common skin condition, especially in teenagers and young adolescents. It is characterized by small boils or pustules on the affected area of the skin. Most often acne appears on facial skin, making it look bumpy and unattractive.
Therefore many people try to get rid of it as soon as possible. The multi million dollar cosmetic industry that invests a good amount of money into research on acne related problems bears testimony to this fact. Many over the counter creams and solutions promise to provide people affected by acne with instant almost magical cures.
Acne is caused due to the presence of excess sebum on the surface of the skin. It could also be caused due to a blockage in the skin pores, caused by dead skin cells. Sebum is the natural oil produced by the body in the sebaceous glands. Its primary function is to protect body fluids from being drained out of the body. It also helps keep the outermost skin of the body moist and fresh. However sometimes due to hormonal imbalances the sebaceous glands increase the production of sebum, thus leading to the formation of acne.
Another reason for the occurrence of acne is: dead skin cells that sometimes remain stuck onto the pores of the skin. The dead skin cells block the pores that secrete sebum onto the skin. This leads to the sebum being trapped under the skin. As the sebum production continues it gets accumulated beneath the skin and reacts with the active bacteria present in the skin to form acne.
Both the above mentioned causes can be treated effectively with natural home remedies.
- In order to get rid of acne you can make a paste using 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder that is blended well in a bowl of unflavored yogurt. Apply this paste on the affected area and let it remain there for 15 minutes. Turmeric has anti septic and anti bacterial qualities, it will also help prevent further infection from taking place. Yogurt will provide your skin with healthy bacteria and also soothe the irritation caused by acne boils.
- Exfoliation is a process of helping your skin clear itself off dead skin cells. It is a very effective method in opening the clogged skin pores. Rub a slice of lemon on the affected skin area. Allow the juice to settle on your skin for 5 minutes. Make sure it does not dry off. If it does dry, you could spray your face with a little water to moisten it. Now using a loofah or sugar granules, gently rub your skin in circular motions. The lemon will act as a natural acidic solution on the skin to loosen the dead skin cells. And the loofah or sugar granules will help in the process of exfoliating the skin. Follow this method up by washing your face with cold water. Repeat this method twice a week for visible results.
