I am a 26 years old female. I am infected with Hepatitis B. Medications prescribed are Lamivudine and Tenofovir. My question is, are there any home remedies you would like to recommend to me.

An herb called chanca peidra has been found to have an antiviral activity against Hepatitis B.

  • Jamun (black berries) are good for Hepatitis. Eat the pulp of 10 jamuns. If possible empty stomach early morning.
  • Have banana with honey
  • Dry ginger powder mixed in jaggery and little Indian cow clarified butter also helps.
  • Have buttermilk with turmeric. ½ tsp turmeric powder in 200 ml buttermilk, three times a day. Buttermilk can be used to cure liver cancer too! For proper procedure for buttermilk see:
  • Have 100 to 200gms of curd with 2- 4 gms of papad khar (crude sodium carbonate or benzoate) early morning. papad khar can be purchased in Indian grocery stores.
  • Rub asafoetida in water and put in eyes.
  • In case appetite is lost take 2 tsp ginger juice with ½ tsp trifala twice a day.
  • Have 5gms Papad khar mixed with sugar in lemon juice
  • If you can do Nasya, one of the panchkarma therapy of ayurveda, do it with decoction of soap nut powder in water. This is rather tricky procedure, not coming under home remedies, but listed here for those who know Nasya. This nasya causes dripping of the nose, and the toxic matter leaves the body in the form of liquid. a sort of liver detoxification.

Hepatitis B virus attacks the hub organ of our body that is the LIVER, which will lead to decreased liver functioning to a certain extent. Have a holistic approach; along with the medications prescribed, also follow some simple measures like -

  • Take proper rest, don't over-exert your self.
  • Regain your energy by including complex carbohydrates in the form of whole wheat and its products. Avoid refined (White flour based) products, junk foods, sugar in your diet.
  • Include moderate amount of proteins in the form of dals, legumes and pulses because high proteins can cause further liver damage.
  • As fat absorption is hindered due to decreased bile secretion and absorption, decrease overall consumption of fats and oils and include MCTs (medium chain triglycerides) like butter, cream, coconut oil while preparing food as they are rapidly absorbed from the intestine and poses less stress on the liver.
  • Have small and frequent meals if you get nauseous feeling. Keep your self well hydrated by increasing the intake of boiled water, vegetable soups and broths if you have been vomiting.
  • Avoid the consumption of alcohol completely, if you consume it.
  • Also practice safe sexual activities as you can pass the virus to your partner.
