Bags under the eyes are a very common problem that you come across in beauty articles everywhere and there are countless remedies and suggestions that you would most likely have come across. Sadly, there is absolutely no scientifically proven remedy. There are however plenty of home remedies that pose almost no risk, are completely inexpensive and are very easily available.

Although none of these remedies are proven to work or researched adequately many patients testify to their efficacy. As with most other natural treatments however some remedies work with some patients while they are not as effective with others. In some cases a combination of methods may also be needed.

In order for any treatment to be effective however it is important that you understand the causes and accordingly narrow down your treatment options. Heredity is one of the most common causes for the formation of under eye bags, and there is nothing you can do to change your genes. Under eye bags may also however be a sign of an allergic reaction in which case it would be necessary to identify the allergens and avoid or at least minimize exposure. Fluid retention is another factor that has been found to cause the problem, and it can also be exacerbated by dehydration. If fluid retention is the culprit it would be wise to cut down on your salt intake to reduce sodium levels. Drinking adequate water and fruit juices is necessary to root out dehydration related problems.

Here are some remedies that you can use to treat the problem.
  • Teabags contain tannic acid that helps to tighten the skin under the eyes and reduce puffiness. Keep 2 used teabags in your refrigerator to cool and then place them over your eyes for at least 20 minutes. Splash your eyes with cold water and gently dab them dry with a towel.
  • The use of frozen cucumber slices placed over the region is also quite popular.
  • Applying vitamin E oil under the eyes is also said to be an effective remedy for under eye bags.
  • According to many individuals potato juice can also be used as an effective cure. Grate a potato and strain the juice, collecting it in a bowl. Soak some cotton swabs in the juice and apply them onto the eye bags for ten to fifteen minutes.
As with most other natural treatments most of these practices need to be adopted for a significant amount of time and need to be followed regularly for any improvement to show.
