Gall Bladder Disease Pain

how can you ease pain from a gall bladder?
( 9 Jun 2009)

The gall bladder is important to proper digestion as it stores bile produced in the liver, and releases it when you consume food. The bile released is essential for the digestion of fatty foods. Gallbladder pain may be caused due to an inflammation of the gallbladder or due to the presence of gallstones.

Both conditions are extremely painful and you would be likely to experience abdominal pain and discomfort. Gallstones however may not always exhibit such symptoms. Since you haven’t specifically mentioned the presence of gallstones I shall assume that you suffer from a gallbladder inflammation.

Gallbladder inflammation has been found to be closely associated with food intolerances and this condition would therefore require significant dietary changes. Your diet needs to be followed religiously as the intention here is to reduce any pressure or stress on the liver and gallbladder. This will also help to relieve the unnecessary pain caused by stress on the liver and gallbladder functions.

Here are some dietary concerns that you must keep in mind:

  • Eliminate all fried and roasted foods from your diet.
  • Reduce and try to cut out the intake of all foods that are fatty or even moderately rich in fats, such as dairy products, animal fats, butter, margarine, and chocolates.
  • Refined carbohydrates and sugar consumption should also be reduced.
  • This may seem like an endless list of things you can not consume, but there are plenty of healthy foods. Fresh fruits and vegetables should form the bulk of your diet, particularly apples, lemons, carrots, oranges, grapes, tomatoes dates, melons, celery, garlic, onions, and beet roots. Beetroots are particularly important, and you can even consume beetroot juice. Carrot and celery juices may also be had in combination with beetroot, or mandarin with beetroot.
  • Consult with a dietitian or your doctor to find out if there are any vitamin or mineral supplements that you need to take.
  • Refined foods and foods containing chemical additives are harmful to you and should be avoided.
  • Alcoholic and caffeinated drinks should also be eliminated from your diet.
Herbs have also long been used to treat gallbladder inflammation, as there are many herbs that work as pain relievers and anti-inflammatory agents. Herbalists often recommend herbs like dandelion root, wild yam, and yellow dock in the treatment of gallbladder inflammation, but you are advised to consult with your doctor before trying out any herbal treatments as many of them can cause reactions, particularly if you are on any other medications.
