If you have pain in your feet, then it is probably caused due to diabetes. Diabetics usually suffer from a pain in the arch of their foot. This condition is known as diabetic and it’s basically a nerve disorder associated with diabetes.

All diabetics are not prone to this condition however, a large number of them do experience these kind of diabetic nerve pains. These nerve pains usually occur in the feet and the pain only grows with time. Therefore it is important that with trying to control your sugar, if you are a diabetic, you should also take very good care of your feet. Though it is important to see your doctor about this and discuss medications and complications, you can also take care of your feet at home. If you fail to do so, in time your feet will deteriorate and form ulcers which will be a cause of constant pain.

With diabetes comes the danger of forming cuts and lesions on the skin of the feet. The feet become extremely sensitive and bruise very easily. Check your feet daily for any such cuts and bruises and if you find any, treat them immediately. Also if you feel that your feet are becoming ulcerated, check back with your doctor immediately. Hygiene is very important for everybody. However, if you are diabetic, it is even more important for you to keep yourself clean. Use lukewarm water on your feet and wash with a mild soap. Refrain from soaking your feet and dry them thoroughly, after your bath. Use a gentle moisturizing lotion on your feet, once they are completely dry. Rub the lotion thoroughly till it is completely absorbed. Do not massage the lotions onto the skin between the toes. The feet of diabetics are very prone to calluses and corns. If you are unfortunate to experience these on a regular basis, use pumice stone to file off these corns and calluses. Also do not let your toe nails grow. While cutting the nails, try to not cut them very close to the skin. If you like, file and buff them.

Wear comfortable shoes or slippers whenever you walk. Do not walk bare feet. This will not only increase your pain but also cause more lesions and ulcers on them. Wear thick socks to save your feet from dirt, dust, sticks and gravel. Make sure your toes have some extra room in your shoes. For new shoes, it is recommended that they should be worn for fairly shorter periods of time before being used for long walks.

Pain in the arch of the foot can be caused for a number of reasons. An injury to the foot or a structural imbalance can be a direct cause. Most often the cause is due to a common condition called Plantar Fascia or Plantar Fascitis.
