Try out these low cost and highly effective home remedies :

Yellow mustard: Apply regular yellow mustard to the affected area. It stops the stinging pain due to sunburns. Mustard is a strong natural antiseptic agent. Once it dries, wash it off and this will prevent it from blistering.

Aloe vera: Refrigerate leaves from an aloe plant. Slide off the top layer of the leaf and apply the fleshy portion directly to the sunburnt area. This is very soothing and the most effective form of using natural aloe used to relieve pain and inflammation.
Aloe vera juice is also useful in many cases. Keep the affected area moist with aloe vera juice and repeat frequently to reduce pain and extent of peeling.  It is beneficial to use olive oil side by side as aloe vera has an astringent effect.

A good idea would be to mix aloe juice with ½ the amount of vitamin E. Vitamin E is a good moisturizer. Dab this on the sunburn.

Yogurt: Apply plain yogurt to the affected area, let it stand for a few minutes and then rinse off with cool water. You can also mix equal parts of yogurt with mashed strawberries and apply to the sunburned area for 15 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.

A good homeopathic remedy to relieve itchy and prickly skin would be to put 20 drops of urtica urens tincture in 4 oz  or 120 ml of water and bathe the skin.
