This has worked for me and my family for years.Place a tea bag on the abscessed tooth and it will draw the abscess to a head and absorb the drainage and relieve the pain until you can see a dentist. This is especially good if you can't see a dentist for a few days.

Do not panic, simple home remedies form your kitchen shelf would help your husband until you visit your dentist.
- Mix 2 drops of clove oil with 1/8 teaspoon olive oil. With the help of a cotton ball press it on the paining tooth. Leave it there for some time; this will help in relieving the pain as clove oil contains eugenol, which is a natural pain killer and antibacterial.
- Boil fresh peppermint in 1 cup of water and ½ tsp salt, and drink it when lukewarm. When ingested, this solution acts as pain killer and can decrease other associated pains like headaches.
- Take ice in a plastic bag or a towel and compress it around the affected area. It will help to reduce the swelling and decrease the pain too.
Consult a dentist as soon as possible for immediate treatment.
