Dear Linda,
There are some questions you need to answer to help us deal with your condition effectively. 1) Are you on medication taken to lower blood pressure? 2) Are you undergoing some major stress?
Swelling of extremeties or oedema is very common if you are on blood pressure medication. You can discuss this with your physician who will alter the dose or change the medication for you. But it is no cause for alarm if it has happened due to BP meds.
If you are undergoing stress, I would suggest you to get involved in destress activities such as meditation. Mental and physical aspects go together. Here are some links you can benefit from reading http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/remedy/Stress.html
Most importantly are you eating properly, are your meals on time? Ensure that eat regular meals and consume healthy foods. Avoid irregular eating habits or skipping meals. Limit your intake of salt. Restrict consumption of pickles, canned foods, catsups, ready-to-cook instant foods which have a high salt content. Use herbs to flavor foods but restrict salt intake. Do not avoid salt completely but cut down on it.
Oedema can occur for a number of reasons. It can also occur in rheumatoid arthritis and various other health conditions. The cause for your exact condition needs to be identified for an effective treatment. You can surely follow the tips above.
