Both pimples and dandruff are common complaints, affecting several people, especially teenagers, across the United States. Thousands of dollars are spent by individuals each year, in the treatment of pimples and dandruff on scalp. However, not a lot of people are aware of the fact that both pimples and dandruff can be related to each other.

Dandruff, also known as seborrhea, is a chronic skin condition, which mainly affects the scalp. It is usually characterized by itchiness and the presence of white scales or flakes on the affected area. In most people, dandruff occurs because of dryness on the scalp and therefore it is mainly composed of dry skin; however, in many people, dandruff could be a reaction to a fungus known as Malassezia. On its own, this skin condition is not really serious. However, it can be a source of embarrassment in many people, as it is usually associated with lack of hygiene. Dry skin is not the only cause of dandruff; many people face this problem, because their skin is excessively oily.

Pimples usually include papules, pustules, whiteheads or blackheads and can occur on different parts of the body, especially the face, back and scalp. There are many factors that could lead to the formation of pimples, which includes dandruff. When the pores on the scalp get blocked because of dandruff, it usually leads to pimples. At times, the dandruff could also block the skin pores on the face, which in turn could lead to pimples on the facial area. People suffering from both pimples and dandruff could first try treating dandruff naturally or through conventional methods.

Most people think that dandruff is mainly prevalent in women, but this is not really true. Dandruff is as common in men, as it is in women. According to recent studies, more than 50% of the American population suffers from dandruff and more than half of them are men. It is hardly surprising that men and women spend hundreds of dollars every year, just for treating dandruff. There are many shampoos and other similar hair care products that claim to get rid of dandruff permanently, after a few uses. However, it is important for people to realize that none of these are permanent cures for dandruff.

Most shampoos, oils and other hair care products may get rid of the dandruff, but the results are only short-lived. In order to keep the scalp free of dandruff, it may be necessary to use such products continuously. There are some products that are meant to be used on a weekly basis, whereas others should be used more often, like twice or even three times a week, for best results.

Unfortunately, most of the anti-dandruff shampoos and products available in the market are quite expensive. Some of them may also contain harsh chemicals, which could ruin the texture of the hair and lead to hair loss and thinning. Therefore, many men and women are now looking at natural ways in which dandruff can be cured. Since this problem can also be seen in school children, it is common for parents to seek home remedies for treating dandruff in children. Most women who are treating dandruff during pregnancy also prefer opting for home remedies, with fewer known side effects.

When it comes to treating dandruff, many people are more comfortable using simple or natural remedies. Some of these remedies are as effective as commercial products, but cost less. Moreover, if these home remedies are used in the right way, the side effects associated with them are fewer. The use of a home treatment for dandruff also makes the hair less exposed to harsh chemicals present in commercial products. Given below are some of the most commonly recommended natural and home remedies:

Treating dandruff with apple cider vinegar

Many health care experts advise people to use apple cider vinegar for dandruff treatment as it regulates the PH balance in the hair and also adds a natural shine to it. For best results, after using a mild shampoo, the hair needs to be rinsed with a solution that is made from two parts apple cider vinegar and one part, warm water. This mixture can either be poured directly over clean hair, or it could be sprayed on to the scalp, with the help of a spritz bottle. It is not necessary to rinse the vinegar out, but in case the smell is a problem, then people can choose to do so.

Treating with tea tree oil

This remedy contains antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, which is why it is excellent for treating dandruff. No more than 10 drops of tea tree essential oil should be mixed to 8 ounces of shampoo, before it is applied to the hair. It is important to use this shampoo daily, till the dandruff disappears.

Treating with tea baking soda

Baking soda contains anti-fungal properties and therefore, it is very effective in treating dandruff. While taking a shower, a handful of baking soda needs to be poured on to the hair and massaged into the scalp. After a few minutes, the hair should be rinsed off. This remedy usually gets rid of severe dandruff within a few weeks too.

Most people believe that treating pimples is a challenge, but this is not the case. However, it is important to identify the factors that could be causing these pimples to arise, so that they can be addressed directly. People seeking home remedies for pimples overnight may be in for a bit of disappointment, as these natural pimple remedies usually take a couple of weeks to bring about results. Given below are some of the most common home remedies for pimples:

  • Apply a mixture made from equal amounts of rose water and lemon juice, on to the affected part of the skin and leave it on for at least 30 minutes before rinsing it off.
  • Make some paste from orange peels and water and apply it on the pimples for around 15 to 20 minutes, before washing the face
  • Rub a piece of fresh garlic directly on to the pimple as well as the surrounding skin
  • Mix three tablespoons of honey, with a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to make a paste, which can be applied on the pimples, just before bedtime. The face should be washed thoroughly the next morning. It is best to follow this exercise each day, for around two weeks or so.

There is a lot of information on scalp pimples treatment easily available through online resources. However, it is best for people to make sure that they consult a doctor before using any of them.

It is important to keep the scalp and face clean by washing them often. If you control your dandruff, automatically your hair loss should subside.
