Alzheimers is a type of brain dysfunction which is currently deemed irreversible.  Sometimes B-vitamins and fish oils can be neuro-supportive, but not curative. Patience and your kindness can be a real learning and  growth opportunity for you and ease the transition of this elderly person.

Often, engaging this person with other sensory activities can be helpful --being outdoors, hand/foot massages, music, etc.   Keep in mind there are many people who would be thankful if they had the opportunity of having their loved ones in their lives again --even if it was only for a few minutes of repetitive and inquisitive questions!  http://www.countrydoc.com

Here are some tips to help you deal with memory loss and inquisitiveness, provided the person is able to read:

  • Keep familiar items next to the person
  • Make a mark on the calendar indicating the day.
  • Make a note of routine activities and post it where it can be seen.
  • You can also write down the meal times, medicine schedules, exercise, and bedtime.
  • Make written notes to record numbers, directions and important information.
  • Use post it notes and stick them where it can be seen easily
  • Make labelled photographs of family members
  • Label cabinets and cupboards with a list of contents.
  • Always remeber that it is the condition that is causing inquisitiveness and not the person.
  • Extending love, care, support and patience are very important in caring for people suffering from alzheimers
