Cleansing the colon or large intestine is an important function to ensure toxins are flushed from the system and normal bowel movements are restored. Toxin build up within the system can cause mild to severe health problems. Consider natural home remedies to detoxify the colon and avoid any health disorder.

Natural laxatives such as prune juice, psylium husks and fiber rich foods are the natural ways to tackle colon problems. Fiber rich foods include whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds and vegetables.

Some high fiber foods include carrots, beetroot, cabbage, peas, apples, brown rice, whole grain breads, whole grain muffins, oat bran, spinach, broccoli, dried fruits like dates and apricots and fresh fruits such as strawberries, blackberries, orange ,apples and pear are good sources of fiber to help ease colon problems.

Eating fiber rich foods instead of fiber supplements are a better alternative to resolve colon problems naturally.

Having fruits and vegetables with their skins or the rind is also a good way to include fiber in your diet. Green foods containing high chlorophyll content such as alfalfa, wheatgrass and barley are considered as ideal colon cleansing foods.

Juice fasts or fasting with fruit or vegetable juices only can also prove beneficial in cleansing the system of all toxins. Include fresh fruit juices or vegetable juices throughout the day for a week to detoxify the system. This diet can be continued for another two to three weeks but diabetics must add water to juices to reduce the intake of natural sugars present in fruits.

Drinking lots of water and following a moderate exercise routine can also be beneficial in eliminating colon problems. Insufficient intake of water can increase the levels of toxins in the system, therefore having eight to ten glasses of water every day can help cleanse the colon naturally.

Avoid intake of refined and fatty foods. Meat and meat products should also be consumed moderately to ensure proper bowel movements. Drinking tea or coffee in excess is also avoidable. Tea or coffee consumption can be substituted with herbal teas or fresh fruit juices. It is also advisable to avoid overeating, insufficient chewing or eating in haste; all situations that may lead to colon disorders.

Colon problems are directly associated with dietary habits, frequent use of laxatives, emotional strain or stress or faulty lifestyle habits. Adequate exercise and eating right can resolve mild to moderate colon disorders. Choose any moderate physical and relaxation activity to soothe the nerves and help the system avoid colon problems.
