( 9 Feb 2007)

Shoulder injuries are extremely painful and can cause you discomfort for a long time. If you have injured a ligament due to overstretching or over using the shoulder, you will need rehabilitation for its treatment. While dislocated shoulders are easy to pop back into the socket, severe sports and overuse injuries might require rehabilitation of the joint, and sometimes, even surgery.

If you have been working hard or performing any kind of manual work that requires putting a lot of stress on your neck and shoulders, give yourself some rest. When you are performing repetitive motions that involve your shoulders, take a break ever now and then and stretch the muscles so that you do not end up pinching a nerve.

If there is a lot of pain in the shoulder, consider applying some ice to the injury. This will heal any internal inflammation and will also reduce swelling. For the first three days, ice is one of the best home remedies for shoulder pain. However, after the initial three days, apply some heat on the shoulder so that you improve blood circulation to the joint. If the pain continues in the shoulder, you can consume some pain killing medications that help you. These are instant, but temporary cures for shoulder pain.

What are the reasons for shoulder pain?

There are a lot of different causes for shoulder pain. In fact, it is one of the most common joint pains that people experience all over the world. Your doctor will have to make a physical examination and help you get appropriate treatment. Often the symptoms of shoulder pain are an indication of its causes. Here are some of the most common causes of pain in the shoulder.

The condition known as bursitis is an inflammatory condition caused due to injuries to the rotator cuff of the joint. Often, the rotator cuff could also be torn. Such torn ligament injuries are extremely painful and often cause a lot of inflammation in the joints. There is a lot of pain and the range of motion is usually severely curtailed.

A frozen shoulder, which is caused due to stiffness and pain in the joint, is also responsible for the condition. This often leads to stiffness in the joints and requires extensive physical therapy as well as rehabilitation to deal with the shoulder pain. Calcium deposits in the tendons, known as calcific tendonitis, are another cause of moderate to severe pain in the shoulders. A shoulder dislocation or sprain in the shoulder joint is another cause of shoulder pain.

How to treat shoulder pain fast?

Shoulder pain has a lot of different causes, and the exact cause of the condition determines the treatment. If you have shoulder pain, your body will demand more attention from you. Rehabilitation is usually necessary when you have serious injuries to your shoulder. However, for treating shoulder pain, you will need to take some rest and allow the shoulder to heal completely. It is especially important to immobilize the shoulder so that it gets the chance to get healed.

Stopping any kind of movement is the ideal way to treat your shoulder pain fast. A lot of people feel that stretching the muscles and exercising regularly can help get relief from shoulder pain, but the truth is that for most people, further stress on the joint only causes more pain. You should get yourself examined by a doctor to see if the injuries are severe. A doctor or a physiotherapist can help you deal with the pain and tell you the exercises that would be most beneficial for your shoulder pain. Eat a diet which is rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals as this is important for repairing damaged cells and tissues. In some cases, a rehabilitative surgery or a graft is required.

Are there any exercises that can help in shoulder pain recovery?

Shoulder pain exercises are important when you have an injury to the shoulder and are in pain. You need exercise to improve blood flow and stretch muscles in the limb and the joints as well. An alternation between exercising and massage for shoulder pain can help you deal with injuries and pain in the shoulder joint.

The best shoulder pain exercise is pendular exercises. These exercises are most useful for those who are recovering from a shoulder surgery. However, before you begin performing these exercises, you should ideally take advice from a doctor or a physiotherapist. Another great exercise for this condition is assisted flexion. This can be performed by increasing the range of movement of your joint. Lie flat and clasp both your hands together. Stretch them slowly and move them above your head. This will help you stretch the muscles and correct any nervous pinches.

Shoulder flexes are another thing you can do to deal with the pain. These can also help improve the blood flow to the joint and strengthen the joint to prevent any further injuries. It is best that you begin your exercises with slight movements and then build the momentum. You can increase the intensity of your exercising as your shoulder gets better.

Your shoulder pain could be the result of a variety of factors --injury, degeneration, inflammation, musculo-skeletal weakness, etc.  A trained health care professional can diagnose the most appropriate cause and recommend some appropriate treatment options.  For example, there are many homeopathic remedies which may be seriously considered. However, without knowing the quality, radiation, intensity, exact location, etc. of your pain, it's not possible to select a good medicine.   http://www.countrydoc.com
