Phlegm can be described as the mucus that appears white, green or yellow in color. The color of the phlegm can indicate the type of infection that is present. It is quite common to notice phlegm in throat, after a deep cough, caused by allergic reactions or infections in the body.

It usually results in a nasty cough or can even lead to a bad cold. Although the presence of phlegm in throat is not a major problem, it can be a bit uncomfortable. Therefore, most people constantly look for options to get rid of phlegm throat. It is possible to use several home remedies to get rid of phlegm in throat and at the same time, cure the infection: Some of the common home remedies for throat phlegm are:
  • Steam: Inhaling steam is one of the most effective home remedies for getting rid of the phlegm that is present in the throat. Boil some water in a large dish and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to it. Bend your head over the pot of hot water and use a towel to trap the steam within. Inhale the steam deeply to break the mucus, in the throat. Continue to process for as long as you can, or for at least 15 minutes.
  • Ginger: Ginger is an excellent remedy for several throat problems, including phlegm. You can make some hot ginger tea and sip it at intervals, throughout the day. Alternately, you could also suck on pieces of candied ginger.
  • Warm Liquids: Drinking a lot of fluids throughout the day, can help dilute the mucus, which makes it easy for the body to expel it. One of the best things to drink for mucus is warm water with either a dash or honey or some lemon. Other liquids like hot soup and warm tea are also great for relieving any discomfort.
  • Oranges: Contrary to what people believe, oranges are great for phlegm in throat, as they are very high in Vitamin C. For adults, it is best to soak slices of oranges in wine overnight, before consuming them.
In case you do not see any relief from phlegm in throat even after using the remedies mentioned above, it may be best to visit a doctor.
