A blocked ear can be quite a distressing experience and also very annoying. The feeling is like as if one has their ears plugged up all the time. The difficulty is not really in not hearing but in the feeling of discomfort that sets in. There are various causes as to why one’s ears get blocked.
These mainly include allergies or being infected with common cold. Also if one is suffering from a sinus problem the person would also experience blocked ears. If one is travelling by plane and there are changes in the atmospheric pressure, then this too can lead to one’s ear getting blocked. Swimming and diving can also cause ear blockage. If there is a lot of ear wax in the ear canal then this too can lead to the ear getting blocked. Most often these problems are temporary and can be resolved quite easily. However, one should take care on the methods one uses as it can also cause some damage to the ear canal. There are a whole variety of methods one can use to help in curing this problem.
Some of the most efficient methods include using the swallowing motion over and over again. When one tries to swallow it causes the sinuses to open up and thus helps in easing some of the built up pressure in the ear canal. If the problem of a blocked ear arises due to the infection of a common cold or because of an allergy then the easiest way is to first try and cure the problem and this will automatically help in curing the problem of the blocked ear. Another quick way is to try and yawn. A very big yawn where in one opens their mouth as wide as possible can also help by opening up the sinuses and thus helping in clearing the blocked ear. Sometimes the blocked ear will open with a pop sound which could also feel a little painful. At times opening one’s mouth as wide as possible and swallowing at the same time may help this problem in going away faster. Another remedy is to try and place a heating pad over one’s ear. The heat helps if there is some water that has got stuck in the ear passage. This will also help to reduce the pain. One can even try to apply some steam to the ear area.
